Congress is Working on the Biggest Expansion of Services for People with Autism
Congress is working on a budget reconciliation package that could potentially provide the biggest expansion of home and community-based services (HCBS) for people with autism in decades. Committees are currently writing legislation to comply with the budget resolution passed by Congress before the summer recess.
The Energy and Commerce Committee is working on a part of the package that includes the Better Care Better Jobs Act which provides a historic $400 billion investment into Medicaid home and community-based services. However, we are hearing that this provision could be negotiated down to $190 billion!
The next several weeks are critical. Please help us educate Members of Congress about the importance of building the HCBS infrastructure to support people with autism and other disabilities.
Contact your Members of Congress in the House and Senate. Urge them to prioritize funding for HCBS the Reconciliation process.
Provide personal stories about how waiting lists for services in your state or how having services has helped you have a high-quality life.
